Three Reasons Why: James Dolan Selling New York Knicks Is Good For The NBA

James Dolan is the current owner of the New York Knicks, and has been said to be one of if not the worst owners in all of professional sports. Dolan has been the owner of the franchise since 1999, and the franchise has been horrible since he has taken over. In his regimen Dolan’s teams have posted a total of four winning seasons, and the Knicks haven’t had a winning season since 2012-2013.

The Knicks play in one of the top markets in the United States in New York, and can’t seem to put together a team that can contend in the Eastern Conference with no LeBron James in it for the first time since the 2002-2003 season. With that being said here are three reasons why James Dolan selling the Knicks would be beneficial for the NBA.

1.) Getting Him Out Of The Organization

There has been a lot of rumors swirling about the Knicks organization being unprofessional and not being a franchise where some players would like to play professionally. The Knicks organization with Dolan at the head of it all has been nothing but a joke to say the least. Dolan struggles to put a team together to contend for a championship, but unless he finds a substantial offer which we all hope somebody gives him the Knicks will be struggling until he gives up the franchise.

2.) Marquee Free Agents Would Sign There

Some of the bigger name free agents in recent memory have had meetings with the Knicks out of respect, but had no intention of signing there due to the franchise being under James Dolan’s control. If James Dolan sells the New York Knicks before this summer’s free agent class you could see big name free agents this summer such as Kevin Durant, Kemba Walker, and many more consider playing in such a huge market like New York City.
All James Dolan has to do is sell the team and the big names signing to play in that New York market would be unreal.

3.) The Knicks Become Relevant Again

The one thing that the NBA has been missing is the classic rivalries that include the New York Knicks. With LeBron playing for the Lakers and the Celtics having the team that they have that classic rivalry is back. The NBA can benefit from the Knicks being good again, all they have to do is follow the process of having Dolan sell the team and this team becomes relevant again.

The whole New York Knick fan base including Spike Lee, would benefit from Dolan selling the team because Madison Square Garden will be as packed as it was when they had Patrick Ewing on the team. Look for the Knicks to become relevant and have a shot at marquee free agents once Dolan realizes that selling the team is his best option.
