Hot Take Thursday: Philadelphia Would Be Better Without Ben Simmons

Yes you read the title right, the Philadelphia 76ers would be better long term without Ben Simmons. Even with the news of Jimmy Butler being unhappy with his role, and Embiid wants to be on the block more. So what is a move a that would make both sides happy and even make the Philadelphia 76ers better in the long run, and that is to TRADE BEN SIMMONS.

I can hear everybody saying why would you trade Ben Simmons who is 6’10, has a great passing ability and can play point guard. Well, Simmons is very ball dominant and is good around a team filled with shooters. Philadelphia had that, but then they decided to trade some of their shooters (Robert Covington, and Dario Saric) for Jimmy Butler. Even though I strongly believe that Jimmy Butler is a cancer to a locker room, I believe this team moving forward would be better with Jimmy Butler moving forward than they would with Ben Simmons.

If the 76ers trade Ben Simmons, they will make Butler happy and could very well sign him to an extension this summer and could have him apart of their long term plans. Plus just think of the trade package they could get for Ben Simmons, a potential swap for Anthony Davis sounds entertaining, but the package that 76ers should try to go for is young players that can fill the void. Philadelphia could use a point guard that can shoot, and a stretch four to go with the starting five, then add some draft picks to the fold and you have a solid future ahead of you.

One of Philadelphia’s biggest problems is that they don’t have enough depth on their team. Well trading Ben Simmons can help you not only keep your cornerstone of the franchise happy in Joel Embiid, but you can upgrade your team this season and position yourself to make some serious noise in the Eastern Conference not only this season, but in the forseeable future.

The biggest reason why I think Philadelphia should trade Ben Simmons is because if the 76ers want to win an NBA Championship, they have to decide whether to build around Simmons or Embiid, because long term they will not co-exist due to the completely different play styles. Embiid wants to be on the block, and can dominant on the block which will make his numbers be a solid 25 PPG to go along with 15 RPG. Simmons is very ball dominant at the point guard position, and he has no jump shot and will probably never develop a jump shot. A duo of Embiid and Butler would be a great duo in the Eastern Conference for years to come, and Simmons has a bright future in the NBA in my opinion just not with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Philadelphia 76ers have a decision on their hand that needs to get figured out sooner rather than later.
