“The Refs play for the Patriots!”, “The Patriots pay the refs!”, “It’s tough to beat both the Patriots and the refs!”.
For the love of all that is pure shut up about the refs!
You want a stat? Here’s a stat from Sunday’s AFC Championship Game:
Kansas City Chiefs – 4 penalties for 28 yards
New England Patriots – 6 penalties for 61 yards.
“Oh but the Refs want the Patriots to win!”
As a New England Patriots fan let me say this….the roughing the passer call was bogus. It wasn’t a penalty. However, two plays later, Eric Berry went for a ride on Rob Gronkowski and prevented him from catching a catchable pass. It went uncalled. Why did it go uncalled? Because the referees knew they made a mistake and needed to make up for it. They did by keeping the flags in their belts on that play.
Was it the Patriots fault that Dee Ford lined up in the neutral zone? No. It was Dee Ford’s fault. I’m sorry, but if you’re blaming the refs for that then go take a hike and enjoy the offseason.
Can we discuss the pick play that set up the Chiefs for a big play down the field and an easy touchdown just a couple plays later? Or is that off the table because it was the Chiefs doing something illegal and not the Patriots?
How about the blatant pass interference on Phillip Dorsett in the end zone in the second quarter? Well, that doesn’t matter anyway, he caught the ball despite being mobbed by Steven Nelson on the play.
In the case of Julian Edelman and the punt play, just a few plays later the ball went through Edelman’s hands and turned out to be an interception. That led to a touchdown for the Chiefs. The entire play turned out to be moot, it meant absolutely nothing.
NFL refs suck. Refs in all sports suck. But please, enough with the refs bullshit with the New England Patriots. Yes, they got away with a phantom roughing the passer call. But it was made up for two plays later with a blatant pass interference being uncalled. The Kansas City Chiefs got away with a pick play late in the game that led to a touchdown and they got away with pass interference all night long.
The referees don’t love the Patriots. They just suck at their jobs.
