Lock, Bubble, And On The Rise (1/29/19)

This week we have an interesting NBA prospect article that I feel will help the fellow NBA fans when looking forward to the NBA Draft. With that being said here is my prospect who is a lock, my prospect who’s currently on the bubble, and my prospect who’s stock is currently on the rise.

Lock: Rui Hachimura (F) Gonzaga

rui hachimura

Rui Hachimura is a 6 foot 8 230 pound forward out of the University of Gonzaga, and is looking to become the first Japanese born player to be a lottery pick in the NBA. Hachimura has a lot of different comparisons to NBA players such as Wilson Chandler, Jerami Grant, and others. Just watching him play I see a lot of Paul Millsap in Hachimura, which given Millsap’s ability to space the floor seems like a right on comparison in my eyes.

Hachimura is averaging 19.9 PPG to go along with 6.2 RPG in his junior season. He is also adding 44 percent from behind the arc which is good for his draft stock. Hachimura is a definite four in the NBA and if he is able to space the floor and be able to shoot it from beyond the arc consistently makes him my lock of the week.

Bubble: Kevin Porter Jr.

Kevin Porter Jr. is a 6 foot 6 218 pound guard out of the University of Southern California. Porter Jr. wasn’t really highly regarded coming out of high school, but his ability to score the basketball makes him a potential top draft prospect. Porter Jr. has been struggling in his freshman season, and his comparison of a Jamal Crawford with size seems like it is a bit of a stretch. He looks more of a Justise Winslow to me comparison wise, rather than a Jamal Crawford.

Porter Jr. is in my opinion a prospect who is on the cusp, or the bubble of being an NBA Draft Lottery Pick, but he has to be able to showcase his talents a lot more during the final months of his collegiate career.

On The Rise: Jarrett Culver

jarrett culver

Jarrett Culver is a 6 foot 5 190 pound guard out of Texas Tech University and is my on the rise prospect of the week. Culver had a sub par freshman season, and has broke out in his sophomore season so far as he is averaging 18.5 PPG to go along with 6.9 RPG and 3.9 APG. The comparisons of Culver to Aaron McKie doesn’t do him justice, as I see him more as a bigger Lou Williams.

He has taken one of the biggest leaps in the country when it comes to talent wise, and this is why I feel he is on the rise to becoming a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
