The report that Anthony Davis has demanded a trade and doesn’t have any intention on signing the extension that New Orleans was set to offer him as well. This report comes as no surprise since he was frustrated with the front office for not re-signing DeMarcus Cousins, and was even more frustrated when they didn’t make any big moves in the off season. Now that the Anthony Davis Sweepstakes is officially underway it is safe to say that no deal is going to get done by the trade deadline. Here are my three reasons why no trade involving Anthony Davis gets done at the trade deadline.
1.) Only Two Big Names Has Been Involved In A Trade Deadline Deal Since 2011
Carmelo Anthony and DeMarcus Cousins are the only players since 2011 that got traded from their originial team that drafted them to another team. Anthony Davis is obviously in a different category than the two other names, but they were in their prime when they got traded.
Anthony Davis is a once in a lifetime talent, and could go for a bigger haul then the Nuggets got for Carmelo and what the Kings got for Cousins. The Pelicans have the opportunity to get a lot in return for the face of their franchise, but it wouldn’t be a good thing for the fans if the Pelicans rushed into a trade involving Anthony Davis.
2.) Not Every Team Will Be Able To Give New Orleans The Price That They Want
Anthony Davis’ price will be one of the steepest prices that we have seen in quite some time. The Pelicans asking price will be at least two first round picks, and two to three established players in the league today. Reports are going around about Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubca, and draft picks are a starting point for trade talks.
Now if you look at the pieces, it reminds you a lot of the package that the Celtics gave up for Kyrie Irving, but Anthony Davis is a lot better than Kyrie Irving. Anthony Davis will be getting New Orleans a lot in return for their future, and the haul will be unbelievable.
3.) New Orleans Will Be Patient On What Trade Package They Like The Best
Now if you think Anthony Davis’ trade value will go down if the Pelicans wait until the Summer you are crazy. Davis is in the prime of his career and will be a huge commodity no matter when he is available. After July 1st, the Celtics will be able to try and trade for Anthony Davis who have been linked to the Celtics for a few years now. With the way the news came about, I wouldn’t be surprised if he lasts the rest of the season in New Orleans. There are only a certain amount of teams that have the trade assets that will be able to entertain New Orleans for Anthony Davis.
My three teams that have the assets to be able to pull of that monumental trade is the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Knicks. Look for the Pelicans to take their sweet time when it comes to trading Anthony Davis, because the future of the Pelicans franchise is currently hanging in the balance.
